DWPC Past President Sally Kurtzman was recently honored with the Jim Lusche Community Service Award for her outstanding volunteerism in helping Lowry become a welcoming and vibrant community. The award was presented on February 19 at the historic Eisenhower Chapel in Lowry Town Center, with 80 residents and friends gathered to celebrate with her.
As one of Lowry’s early residents, she has initiated, among other projects, community morning walks on Fridays, community happy hours, applied for and received six grants for Lowry projects, and placed a recycling/reuse bin at the nearby rec center.
Sally says that she was raised to give back, but that her commitment to volunteerism “really took off” after she read the book Bowling Alone: The Collapse of American Community by Robert D. Putnam, which is full of “great ideas.” The result truly has been extraordinary, not only for Lowry but for the DWPC. Well done, Sally, well done!
