Entry Fee:

  • Fiction- $25 per entry
  • Nonfiction- $25 per entry
  • Poetry- $15 per entry

Cash Prizes: In each category: First $150; Second $100; Third $75

Bonus Critique: All entrants will receive constructive comments from professional writers and editors who are members of the Denver Woman’s Press Club.

Entry Instructions:

  • Read rules and submit the entry form below.
  • Pay fee for each entry using PayPal or credit/debit card. 
  • Word format only (.doc or .docx), 12-pt. type, double-spaced.
  • Include title and page number on each page, but DO NOT include author’s name or other identifying information. 
  • Limit one entry per category; complete a separate entry form for each submission.

Unknown Writers Contest Rules

Eligibility:
The contest is open to adults, 18 and older, who:

  • Are Colorado residents;
  • Have never been published with a byline and been paid in cash or copies in the category entered;
  • Have not previously won first place in the same category in this competition.

Categories:

  • Fiction: Short story, no novel excerpts – 2000-word limit. 
  • Nonfiction: Journalistic report or essay (profile, memoir, opinion piece. etc.) – 2000 word limit.
  • Poetry: Up to 40 lines, rhyming form or free verse.
