Author and DWPC member Candace Kearns Read will speak Tuesday, June 21, about Bogie’s Bike, a memoir she wrote in collaboration with Hollywood publicist Bob Palmer before his recent death. The event will start at 6 p.m. at the clubhouse.

Bogie’s Bike tells a story of show business as Palmer meets Humphrey Bogart, Clark Gable, Ronald Reagan, Bing Crosby, John Wayne, Lucille Ball and many other movie stars. It also tells of Palmer’s lasting relationships with Dick Van Dyke, Anthony Hopkins, Joan Crawford, Truman Capote and others.

Kearns grew up in Los Angeles, where she was a personal script reader for Hopkins, Marlon Brando and Mel Gibson, as well as other actors, agencies, managers and production companies. Her 1998 script Home Games, based on the life of a baseball wife, was produced by HBO.

Kearns’s own memoir, The Rope Swing, will be released this summer.
