Author and DWPC member Corinne Joy Brown will discuss her latest book, Hidden Star, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, June 12, at the clubhouse.

Focusing on a contemporary New Mexican Hispanic woman, this fictional work reflects the history of so-called “hidden Jews.” During the 15th and 16th centuries, many Jews fled from Spain and Portugal, seeking haven in the Americas. Some appeared to convert to Catholicism in order to stay alive, while they secretly continued their practice of Judaism. Their descendants often went through all or much of their lives unaware of their Jewish heritage.

As an adult, the heroine of Hidden Star learns of her secret heritage, allowing her to decide what to do about it.

Brown explored identity in two previous novels set in the West, MacGregor’s Lantern and Sanctuary Ranch. She is the publisher and editor of HaLapid, the journal of the Society for Crypto-Judaic Studies.

The public is welcome at this free special event.
