Kim Christiansen, who co-anchors news broadcasts at 4 and 9 p.m. for 9NEWS, will be the guest speaker at Denver Woman’s Press Club’s Monday, March 14, dinner meeting. She will talk about the ever-changing world of television news.
Christiansen has won four regional Emmy awards for spot news, news writing and news reporting. She grew up in Colorado and graduated with a degree in journalism from the University of Colorado Boulder. Her first job was as a writer and associate producer for the 6 a.m. news at 9NEWS. She went on to work as a writer for the late newscasts and eventually made the transition to general assignment reporter. Her first anchor position was on 9NEWS Saturday Morning. She went on to anchor the 5 and 10 p.m. newscasts on weekends, and currently serves as a co-anchor at 4 and 9 p.m.
Devoted to the fight against breast cancer, Christiansen serves as a spokesperson for the Buddy Check 9 program and speaks to dozens of community groups about the importance of self-examination and mammography. The Buddy Check 9 program has been nominated for a national community service Emmy award.
Christiansen is a former Miss Colorado and won a special talent award at the Miss America Scholarship pageant.
Before dinner, the DWPC social hour will feature piano music by member Barbara Wright, starting at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. Guests are welcome with members; dinner is $16 and wine is $4. Members should RSVP to Hilary@artconsultation.com.
