Denver Woman’s Press Club offers two contests every year to recognize the efforts of writers in the Denver community. Both competitions take place in the Spring.
Our Unknown Writers Contest is open to both men and women who are Colorado residents, age 18 or older. Entrants must have never been professionally published (never been paid for their work). Contestants may not have won first place in the previous years’ competitions. The rules and regulations will be published in February of each year. Many of our previous winners have gone on to become published writers! Download the 2012 rules and entry from here.
Categories include short-form fiction, nonfiction essays and poetry.
In addition, we turn the spotlight on our own members with the annual In-House Writer’s Contest. This private competition is open to current members of the Denver Woman’s Press Club only. Categories include fiction, nonfiction personal experiences and feature articles, poetry, ultra-short novel, blog entry and editorial rant. The categories sometimes change from year to year.
All entry materials are kept strictly confidential. Entries are only shown to judges and committee chair, (although members are invited to read excerpts from their winning work at each year’s awards banquet).
