Cash Prizes and Professional Feedback for Unknown Writers in an Online Contest from the Denver Woman’s Press Club

The Unknown Writers’ Contest of 2017, sponsored by the Denver Woman’s Press Club, offers cash and comments to writers who have never been published and paid in cash or copies. Welcoming entries in three categories —  nonfiction, fiction, and poetry — the contest is open to men and women who are Colorado residents, age 18 and over.

The 2017 winners were:

Nonfiction
First Place – “The Caddy” by Dennis Floyd
Second Place – “What Angels Do” – Kristin Leclaire
Third Place – “The Gift of the Pink Dress”

Fiction
1st Place: “The Necromancer’s Apprentice” by Sandra Hermans
2nd Place: “Henry Can Fix It!” by Erika Henkart
3rd Place: “Deep Frost” by Cynthia Ivers
Honorable Mention: “The Cup” by Philip Van Pelt

Poetry
1st Place – “Perfect Sleep” by Linda Olson
2nd Place – “Reckoning of the Heart” by Michael Hager
3rd Place – “Night Sailing” by Lisa Lukasiewicz
Honorable Mention: – Cerebral” by Kristin Macintyre

Cash prizes were awarded in each category: 1st place $125, 2nd place $75, and 3rd place $50. In addition, all entrants received detailed, written comments from professional writers who are members of the club.

Entrants may submit one entry in each category with a 2,000-word limit for fiction and nonfiction and a 40-line limit for poetry if they have not previously won first place in that category. A fee of $25 is required for fiction and nonfiction, $15 for poetry.
