Congratulations to the winners of the Unknown Writers’ Contest 2017! The annual contest is open to Colorado writers who have never been paid for their writing and offers cash prizes in the categories of nonfiction, fiction, and poetry. This year 69 entries came from many parts of the state, including The Gathering Place, a shelter for women in Denver. In addition to the chance to win a prize, each entry receives written comments from professional writers who are members of the club. The 2017 winners are:

Nonfiction

First Place: “The Caddy” by Dennis Floyd

Second Place: “What Angels Do” by Kristin Leclaire

Third Place: “The Gift of the Pink Dress” by Lisa Hendry

Fiction

1st Place: “The Necromancer’s Apprentice” by Sandra Hermans

2nd Place: “Henry Can Fix It!” by Erika Henkart

3rd Place: “Deep Frost” by Cynthia Ivers

Honorable Mention: “The Cup” by Philip Van Pelt

Poetry

1st Place: “Perfect Sleep” by Linda Olson

2nd Place: “Reckoning of the Heart” by Michael Hager

3rd Place: “Night Sailing” by Lisa Lukasiewicz

Honorable Mention: “Cerebral” by Kristin Macintyre

A tea will be held at the Denver Woman’s Press Club on Sunday, April 9, 2 – 4 pm to celebrate the winners. Winners and their guests are invited.
