The Unknown Writers’ Contest of 2017, sponsored by the Denver Woman’s Press Club, offers cash and comments to writers who have never been published and paid in cash or copies. Welcoming entries in three categories — nonfiction, fiction, and poetry — the contest is open to men and women who are Colorado residents, age 18 and over. The contest opens January 1st; the deadline for submissions is February 22, 2017. All entrants will be invited to a reception at the DWPC’s historic clubhouse on April 9, 2017.
Cash prizes will be awarded in each category: 1st place $125, 2nd place $75, and 3rd place $50. In addition, all entrants will receive detailed, written comments from professional writers who are members of the club. Entrants may submit one entry in each category with a 2,000-word limit for fiction and nonfiction and a 40-line limit for poetry if they have not previously won first place in that category. A fee of $25 is required for fiction and nonfiction, $15 for poetry.
