Bio

Georgia Garnsey has lived in Denver for 39 years. Her husband, Woody is an artist, photographer and avid skier. Their two daughters are Hilary Garnsey who lives in Carbondale and Megan Kemper from Denver. They have five amazing grandchildren.

Georgia began her writing career with gardening articles for regional magazines. She was the Gardening Editor at Colorado Homes and Lifestyles for several years.

She has written three books. “City-Smart Denver,” is a guidebook co-written with her daughter, Hilary. She authored “Great Gardens of Colorado,” with photography by Rob Proctor and her husband, Woody Garnsey. The book describes the unique gardening challenges in Colorado’s three distinct growing regions: the plains, mountains and plateaus. Descriptions of 72 gardens from across the state illustrate the plants that thrive in Colorado and the gardeners whose individual techniques and tricks make them bloom.

“The Murals of Colorado: Walls That Speak,” is Georgia’s newest book. Johnson Books in Boulder will release the book in June. This book, with lavish photographs, is coauthored by Denver art historian, Mary Motian-Meadows. It describes the history of murals in Colorado from prehistoric Native American cave paintings through the City Beautiful Movement, the Depression (WPA) era, the Chicano Movement to the contemporary murals created by Colorado’s newest wave of artists practising this uniquely public art form.

Georgia is the 2011-2012 President of the Denver Woman’s Press Club.
